Free by Adobe | Link to website

Adobe Reader software is the global standard for electronic document sharing. It is the only PDF file viewer that can open and interact with all PDF documents. Use Adobe Reader to view, search, digitally sign, verify, print, and collaborate on Adobe PDF files. Adobe Reader is available on desktop for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and on mobile for Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm OS ( http://www.adobe.com/it/products/reader/systemreqs/ ) More info »

It's bulky, slow and insecure. Worst of all, you can't create or edit PDF documents on it! Although it has a polished interface, it does not make up for it's terribleness. You have to constantly update this thing every month; download 40 MB and install 80 MB for a PDF reader, and repeat for the next month. Waste of time. I recommend Foxit Reader; it has a decent interface, and it has almost every feature you can get from Adobe Reader.

It's really not that big or bloated for what it does, but the weekly updates drive me insane.

Adobe Reader functions more smoothly and renders more accurately than any of the clones I have tried. I've never noticed this "bloat" that everyone complains about.

Adobe Reader is nothing but a huge pile of bloat. I changed to SumatraPDF a few years ago and was amazed. The application size is tiny, the memory footprint is good, and it loads pdf files many magnitudes faster than Adobe Reader ever has. Since I switched I've never found a reason to look back.

Slow and bloated. Somehow improved in latest releases but still not good

Kinda slow, but will render everything properly unlike Foxit. Also the UI is much better since v8.

Adobe is garbage. Always has been slow and buggy. Use a quality open source alternative like Evince, Sumatra, or Okular. I guess you could use Foxit if you want adware.
