If it wasn't for Google Docs, this would be my word processor of choice.

If you need styles and (automatically) numbered headlines, AbiWord is not for you. I found support for styles in AbiWord to be very basic, inconvenient, inefficient and buggy to work with. I couldn't get numbered headlines to work at all, which is a must-have feature for me.
During my short test drive with AbiWord I encountered several other erroneous behaviors that made my experience with AbiWord a disappointing one. Not sure if AbiWord has problems with Windows 7 64bit or my specific system, but it definitely didn't work for me.
I turned to OpenOffice.org Writer to get the job done.

My word processor of choice! It has all the features I need and none I don't, and it's very fast and easy to use! I used OpenOffice.org Writer before switching to AbiWord. As much as I love Writer, it just seems like overkill and was terribly slow for what I needed it for.
I highly recommend AbiWord for home users!
