We are rebuilding our "report incorrect alternatives" functionality (we think this is probably our most important feature, quality over quantity!). Anyway i was browsing alternatives to Opera and my god what a mess that was. Everything from TED (!?) to Feedburner to Rss Readers and Torrent clients. I know that Opera can do a lot of stuff but people that are looking for "Alternatives to Opera" is NOT looking for TED, Feedburner or a Torrent client. Maybe 1 in 10.000 do that but we cannot care about that person :) Anyway! Sub features of apps like Opera could be added to the site as their own app. It's nothing wrong in adding "Operas - Torrent Client" as a stand alone app and then add it as an alternative to uTorrent and so on. Just think of those sub features of Opera as extensions. We do not add everything that Windows or OS X CAN do as alternatives to everything, we add the feature like Expose or Taskbar or whatever as an app on it's own :) Same thing with extensions to Firefox and so on. And always! What is a person looking for when searching for "Alternative to application X" on Google or AlternativeTo. If you just keep that in mind everything is much easier. Read more about our thoughts of alternatives here http://alternativeto.net/discussions/faq/6208/what-should-be-an-alternative-to-what- Ps. We are always looking for new admins / mods so if you interested just send us an e-mail or a message on the site! |
