I wanted to login to recommend/like some software and have a previous login here that I have used for a while. When I hit the login button, I am now taken to some new kind of "Global Signin". I can seem to create/associate a user there but it is not related to my old userid. Has something changed recently?

Hi!

Can you please send me us an e-mail with some info like your e-mail, what username you had before if you remember and what OpenID you used last time. Or if you used Facebook.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what y'all have done with the sign-in mechanism ... to be honest it confuses me. When I signed in using my "Yahoo" selection, it seems to have worked great but when I tried with my Google ID, it seemed to associate me with a different alternativeTo userid.

By the way, I think altenativeTo.net is a fantastic resource. Truly wonderful. Thank you for building this.

Yes :)

We use OpenID (Or Facebook) so that you do not have to use a username/password. So every account on alternativeto is associated with a OpenID. If you use Yahoo you have to use Yahoo all the time. If you use your Google Account we have no idea that it's you and therefore a new user is created!

Thanks for using it and please tell your friends about it!

Dear Ola,

I'm pleased to announce that, culminating our longish message exchange via Hotmail, I was finally able to log in with my previous credentials and not as 'Lazy User3558481'. Thanks for bearing (with) me...

Midas :)
