On windows I used this a lot, but since I switched to Ubuntu I have been using Avidemux which is almost identical to this program, but nowadays I think Avidemux has more capabilities. This program is still very good though.
With some Plugins like Directshow Input Driver or ffchandler's plugins you can open wmv, mov, mkv and else.
Was my first video editing tool, even before I dabbled into Windows Movie Maker. It is a very useful piece of program, though linear video editing will not be everyone's cup of tea. Before I used it extensively for simple cut, paste croping, conversion to various format like Divx, Xvid, mp4 etc. Also the one feature I liked was saving of audio portion of a video file. In those days Avidemux wasn't available.
