    I would just like to note that paint.net is not open source but is freeware. Only some of the Icons used in paint.net are open source.

    I do not like Paint.net, because it is not possible to select and to move a text object and change the font size. You can only select areas with pixels, not text objects. From the moment, when a text has been created, you can edit it only as an area with pixels, not as a text with changeable size, letters and changeable text position. The manipulation of text fields is a big weak point of Paint.net.

    If the developers would improve this weak point, or if someone does not use texts in pictures, Paint.net would be on of the best picture editing applications.

    @em4020: You can expect those in the future versions.. Kindly wait.. Use freeware.

    If I want to select and to move a text object and change the font size in pictures I have best experience with PhotoScape. Beside many other very useful features you can perfectly select, move and manipulate text objects. The manipulation of text fields including of framing of text fields is a problem for many other free photo-editing software products as Paint.net, Pixlr, Adobe Photoshop Express, GimpShop or IrfanView. My recommendation for this purpose and especially for the professional framing of large series of pictures: http://alternativeto.net/desktop/photoscape/

    @em4020: You can't even zoom in and out holding ctrl and scrolling in Photoscape. It's not got a complete development. Paint.Net is growing from scratch..

    @mirasravi
    Zoom in and out holding ctrl and scrolling is a nice feature, but you must know it. I seldom use hotkeys and prefer the button (loupe symbol) in Photoscape to zoom (right at the bottom), because it is self explaining. But after your comment I searched in Photoscape Help for zooming Hotkeys and found it:
    "Ctrl Alt - " Zoom in and "Ctrl Alt +" Zoom out. More Hotkeys for Photoscape see http://screencast.com/t/NDMxNGY5Y2Ut . To use hotkeys is not easy, because auch program has other hotkeys.
    A unique speciality of photoscape is the batch editor for manipulating series of many photos for the professional framing and renaming. This save a lot of time compared with separated single manipulation of each photo. And I also like the EXIF-info function, which not many picture apllications have.
    There are also functions, which are not covered with photoscape, e.g. to treat distort with houses. For this purpose I mostlx use GIMP or another specialized program for distort, called ShiftN. But Paint.NET also has not distort functions in the quality of GIMP or ShiftN, as far as I know.

    Paint.net is easy and simple to use, unlike other image editing programs, which require guides and tutorials (coughPhotoshopcough). If you know how to use MS Paint, you will get the hang of Paint.net in less than half an hour. It's way better than bare-bone MS Paint in nearly every single aspect, too.
