Fantastic bit of kit for free - though I think it might only be freeware rather than open source.
Also handles 'projects' - grouping numerous files and resources into a single project to open (something a number of editors that I have tried didn't allow).
Works flawlessly on both my Ubuntu and Win XP machines.
Komodo Edit is indeed Open Source, released under the same license scheme as Firefox:

I love Komodo Edit. I bought Adobe CS 4 Web Design Premium from my school for my web design course, and I find myself using Komodo Edit instead of DreamWeaver. Komodo Edit supports plugins, is fairly low-bloat and has tons of options for customizing and tweaking your workspace. Built in FTP, ability to save related files as projects, macros, pretty much everything you would expect from a serious IDE for the low price of free. If you don't need or want a WSYWIG, you can't go wrong with Komodo.
