Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser descended from the Mozilla Application Suite, managed by the Mozilla Corporation. A Net Applications statistic put Firefox at 24.43% of the recorded usage share of web browsers as of January 2010, making it the 2nd most popular browser in terms of current use worldwide after Microsofts Internet Explorer, and the most used browser independent of any one operating system, following http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox. The best, I think. It's not as fast as chrome or as slick as safari, but its one of the most solid, extensible browsers around. It can be customized to do absolutely anything you can imagine, and it just works out of the box (figuratively. out of the installer package?). There's a reason it generates such intense love there are whole websites devoted to spreading it, and that it's browser share has climbed from like three to twenty percent in five years
let us not forget the amazing extensions the community has made for Firefox
I have to agree with comments regarding extensions. It's fantastic with stuff like DownloadHelper.
The Best!!! Add-ons make it nearly perfect browser on planet ^^
By far this is the best browser ever. For safer and faster browsing I highly recommend installing Adblock Plus and NoScript. Simply awesome.
I use this all the time and I also use Adblock Plus, and many more addons... This is my main web browser on Ubuntu.
I am inspired by the fullness of the Add On possibilities like Xmarks, Scrapbook, MyCroft Project, TabMix plus, UnMHT, FEBE, FoxyProxy, iMacro, FoxLingo in comparison to IE8. An exclusion reason for FireFox was earlier for me that one could not store Internet sites with Firefox as a mht file. Today this is better with the FF-Add-On UnMHT as with IE8, namely with automatic date and title in the file name. About 60 percent of share of the market reach in Germany the different versions of the Mozilla-browser according to StatCounter, in comparison to about 30 percent for Microsoft IE-family. Worldwide the picture has exactly turned back: 60 to 30 percent in favour of the IE it stands worldwide.
Firefox must be the most complex browser, it's not the fastest, but the most extensible!
For me personally fastness never was relevant for the decision, what browser I use, because I felt no difference. Relevant for me because very different is the function of the browser inluding add-ons. But after the comment of SmartWish I become curious and tried to find information about browser speed: Speed test, see http://derstandard.at/fs/1231153153622/Speedtest-Google-Chrome-und-Mozilla-Firefox-verblasen-die-Konkurrenz : The Result: Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox blow away the competitors. Google Chrome and Firefox give the speed, the rest trots behind. In the SunSpider test both web browsers lie clearly and unambiguously before Opera - at the fourth place only the Internet Explorer.
If You Use IE....SWITCH TO FIREFOX PLEASE!!
Best webbrowser ever. Only one with more than 1000 addons.
Add-ons....FTW!!!
I only find this useful for addons: Web Developer, Ubiquity, Greasemonkey, NoScript and a few others. Other than that it's really 'sluggish' compared to Chrome.
the best Add-ons make it the slowest browser to load. But when I need to use the Add-ons I open it go and make a coffee and enjoy it when I get back
firefox for Ever .....................
Firefox is more secure than Internet Explorer and has a HUGE collection of great addons (addons.mozilla.org). I personally recommend Adblock Plus and SearchPreview. Firefox ftw! :P
"Adblock Plus" belongs to the 4 most necessary Firefox add-ons for daily use:Xmarks (1), Adblock Plus (2), Add To Search Bar (3) and UnMHT (4, 5).(1) http://alternativeto.net/desktop/xmarks/ (2) http://alternativeto.net/desktop/adblock-plus/ (3) http://alternativeto.net/desktop/add-to-search-bar/ (4) http://alternativeto.net/desktop/unmht/ (5) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8051
My most used and recommended FireFox Add-ons:https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/collection/e.m.4020
Firefox is by far the clear number one of all browsers used in Germany (and Austria):In Germany in Feb. 2010 the top 5 browsers have the following market shares:Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari, Chrome, Other: 60.7%, 27.35%, 4.12%, 3.39%, 3.3%, 1.14%.Source: http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-DE-weekly-200827-201006My personal clear preference is also Firefox.
I use the Firefox-AddOn UnMHT nearly every day; as long as Google Chrome has no UnMHT, it is no browser for meI cannot imagine to use a browser without UnMHT's normal functions, to store web pages as single mht-files. But the UnMHT (1) function "Save selection as MHT" is very unique, very useful, daily needed and in spite of this not available in any other browser than firefox, as far as I know. The Microsoft Internet Explorer is able to save web pages as mht-files, but cannot save a selection as MHT file.If you tried UnMHT out, you will never want to get along without UnMHT!
