I use, and love notepad++ but it is in no way a replacement for dreamweaver. Check out Microsoft Expression Web, it is a better alternative in that it is not only a text editor, but also does the WYSIWYG stuff dreamweaver does.
Dreamweaver is good for graphic designers thatdon't want to get messy with code - It's good for creating basic sites, but don't get too excited.
Use Aptana or Notepad++.
